Heavy Lift Airships

An airship is a buoyant craft with static lift created by a lighter-than-air gas such as helium. It also utilizes engine-power to propel it through the air along with a system for regulating altitude.

A traditional airship can, in theory, carry very heavy loads. However, problems occur when loading or unloading. The addition or removal of weight upsets the airship's buoyancy. If an airship is flying with a payload of 10-tons, it suddenly becomes 10-tons lighter unloaded. Many heavy-lift concepts have theorized about a replacement system of water, sand or any other equal weight that would simultaneously replace the payload as it is being removed. This method is awkward and unpractical.

21st Century Airships Team Inc. has developed and patented the enabling technology for an airship that does not require load replacement. Fully developed, it has the potential to be a heavy-lift, flying crane and a transporter of heavy and oversized goods. It is likely that the technology can be scaled up to 50-tons or more.

A 1-ton demonstrator/proof-of-concept airship is currently being developed.
